Once a farming
and mill town, Lenox was "discovered" by
wealthy New Yorkers and Bostonians in the
mid-1800s, and quickly became a resort
getaway. In 1845, Boston banker Samuel Gray
Ward, who later financed the U.S. purchase
of the state of Alaska, built a summer
"cottage" in the area. It wasn't long before
he spread the word back in the city that
Lenox was truly the place to be. Hampton
Terrace dates back generations and is an
integral part of that history. We are
minutes from the Hancock Shaker Village and
the Clark Art Institute. If you plan to
attend the Berkshire Theatre Festival, or
the summer-long Williamstown Theatre
