Why it's called the Bel Air Room

berkshires-bed-and-breakfast--main-inn--belair-room-historyMain house rooms are named after former owners of this property. Captain Robert Shaw Oliver of Albany, and his wife Marion, constructed their home on this site in 1873 (replaced in 1896 by the Struthers' "Wynnstay"). This room overlooks the site of the former "Bel Air" mansion, the home where Mrs. Oliver grew up. Unfortunately, Bel Air was destroyed by fire a century later.

Marion Oliver was the niece of the Haggertys, the original owners of Ventfort Hall, which was moved across the street and renamed Bel Air when the Morgans built the current Ventfort Hall. Marion was also the daughter of William Rathbone, who constructed the first Wyndhurst mansion, now Cranwell Resort.

“I just wanted to thank you for the most amazing sleep I've received since March. I'M NOT KIDDING! Working on 'All My Children', I am at the studio at 6am, only to return home from at midnight and after memorizing my next day's dialogue, back to sleep at 2am - for 3 hours, before I do it all again. Your home is so beautiful, so charming, so exquisite and filled with such an amazing personal touch - I wished I could stay forever (or at least another night!) I can't wait to have a proper vacation from my busy work schedule to fully take advantage of (what i later heard!) was an amazing breakfast, the beautiful town of Lenox, but mostly quality time in such a beautiful, historic, clearly so loved by its owners, bed and breakfast. Thank you again for your warmth and hospitality.”
