About Hampton Terrace
A HISTORY OF HAMPTON TERRACE
The property that Hampton Terrace is on was originally the site of Lenox's blacksmith. In 1852, Edmund Spencer built a home on the property, and was acquired in 1867 by the widow of Ogden Hoffman, "one of the most eloquent lawyers New York ever contained."

Trip Advisor Reviews: Hampton Terrace rated number one!
"Loved the Hampton Terrace"
I was thrilled with a recent stay at a terrific Inn in the Berkshires by the name of Hampton Terrace in Lenox, MA, and I want to tell you why. I have been traveling for summer vacations to the Berkshires for many years, and I have stayed in a number of different locations in and around Lenox. I find the Hampton Terrace to be the best of all of the places in which I have stayed. The hallmark of a great stay at an Inn is, first and foremost, the proprietors. Stan and his wife are the perfect host and hostess. They are helpful without being intrusive, quality oriented to the maximum, wonderful sources of information and recommendations, and great story tellers. You cannot ask for a better location, particularly if you want to take advantage of all that the Berkshires has to offer. Lenox is smack in the middle of all that anyone would want to do - from Jacob's Pillow to Tanglewood to Williamstown Theatre Festival and on and on. The rooms at the Inn are great, the guests were interesting, the breakfasts are high quality, high variety, and home made. Stan always has an interesting hot entree, and I hope that his blueberry pancakes, Poppi omelet, and French toast are offered during the times that you visit. There is just a homey, warm, welcoming feeling about the whole place. I will be staying there whenever I go to the Berkshires, provided that there is room availability and that Stan and his wife are still there.

"Hampton Terrace is the best in Lenox"
Over the past decade, my wife and I have stayed in eight different inns in Lenox, MA (which is our favorite destination--Tanglewood, Shakespeare and Co, Berkshire Theater, Williamstown Summer Theater, et al). This year we stayed for the first time at Hampton Terrace, and already are planning our return visit. The accommodations were quiet and extremely comfortable, we frequently had the (heated) pool to ourselves, breakfast was excellent, and Stan Rosen's service and attention were truly outstanding. Hampton Terrace has become our favorite nesting site when we migrate north to the Berkshires--the location is perfect for all that is available in Lenox, too. We highly recommend it.

"Best Stay Ever at the Hampton Terrace"
Our stay at the Hampton Terrace was nothing but the best. The hospitality was incredible. The ambiance was amazing. The rooms were large, with the most comfortable beds-not to mention the fireplace in the bedroom!!! The breakfast was great, but the service was above and beyond. Stan and Susan definitely made you feel at home. We went with 8 other couples for a birthday and the two of them really made the entire stay very special. The location is perfect-great restaurants in walking distance and Stockbridge only 10 minutes away-We'd definitely suggest going to the Norman Rockwell museum. We would definitely go back.

"Great for a Romantic Getaway!"
My boyfriend and I recently spent a night at the Hampton Terrace. We stayed in one of their King Suites. It is the most expensive room that they have, but we found it to be well worth the money. We were greeted by Stan Rosen, one of the owner's who was very polite and knowledgeable about the area we were staying in. He showed us to our room and made sure we knew how everything in the room worked. Our room was exactly what we were looking for Romantic, well decorated, and very comfortable. Most hotels/inns have low grade mattresses with ugly quilts...the bed we slept in was very comfortable and had a warm down comforter. There is a big hot tub with jets in the room which we found to be very relaxing, you fill the tub yourself, so you can set the water temp at what you feel to be comfortable. There was a mini fridge located in the room which was very helpful because we were able to bring our own drinks and snacks and sit and enjoy them in our room. There was a bunch of restaurants and bars within walking distance, but we enjoyed our room so much that we only left for a short time to get dinner and then headed straight back to the inn. If you are looking for a quiet romantic night away with your other half this inn is a must!! My boyfriend and I are already talking about when we can make time to go back!

"Absolutely Charming!"
Our stay at the Hampton Terrace was our first experience staying at a Bed and Breakfast. We loved it! The owners, Stan and Susan were very gracious hosts providing us with an extremely pleasant and enjoyable stay. Stan was very knowledgeable concerning the history of Lennox and Susan gave us valuable information concerning the restaurants in the area. Our accommodation was very clean and inviting. The food was delicious and the atmosphere charming. They both made us feel very welcome in their beautifully appointed home. Our first visit to the Berkshires was a great success!

"Delightful Berkshire 'cottage' experience"
I recently stayed at the Hampton Terrance in Lenox with a large-ish family party -- nine of us who had just attended my sister-in-law's wedding in Boston. The property, which is one of the famous (palatial) Berkshire cottages written about by Edith Wharton, is very beautiful, and hosts Stan and Susan Rosen made us feel extremely welcome without fussing us to death. The breakfasts, which were included, were fabulous and the Rosens were very gracious about accommodating special dietary needs even when the request was made at the last minute. My husband and I booked a King Suite, which had plenty of room for two separate beds to be set up for our children. Our family photo album is now packed with images of our children playing on the Hampton Terrace grounds, which include a picturesque treehouse and tire swing as well as more conventional amenities like a swimming pool (which we were too late in the season to use), but I imagine most guests will be most impressed by the luxurious yet relaxed ambiance. The Rosens offered a wealth of information about the area, both in terms of local history and current restaurant, cultural and other attractions -- Stan sent extensive information when we first booked, and gave us informal talks on the area while we were there. I would certainly stay at Hampton Terrance again, and recommend it highly.

"Wish we could have stayed longer"
We stayed at the Hampton Terrace for two nights during a recent get-a-way to the Berkshires. We had a room in the main building and it was just as beautiful, elegant, comfortable and welcoming as the rest of the home itself. We found the breakfasts delicious and adjoining the dining room there's a lovely, bright enclosed porch where you can also enjoy your meal. Each time on our way in or out, we'd linger a moment to look at the paintings, pictures, the vintage doll collection, antiques, collectables, and other fine appointments and details throughout the residence. Between touring, sightseeing and shopping we found a few minutes to sit on the cozy furniture on side porch off of the parlor which even includes a hammock. We walked to the pool and it looked very inviting as well since it was very humid that particular day. Stan and Susan were very gracious, helpful and accommodating hosts. Stan told us the story of how "Atticus" came to reside there and it was a pleasure to meet this well behaved dog. Our time spent there was so peaceful and relaxing. Again, we just regret that we didn't have more time during our visit to enjoy all of the amenities that this fine Inn has to offer!

"Southern Hospitality in New England"
The Hampton Terrace is a bargain in a high priced area of the Berkshires. We have now stayed there twice; once in 2005 and recently in May 2006. They are centrally located in Lenox where you can walk to art galleries and restaurants, and offer a home cooked breakfast everyday. We highly recommend it and will be staying there next year.

"Best Bed and Breakfast in Town"
Just wanted to drop you a quick note to say we had a wonderful mini-vacation thanks in large part to your gracious hospitality. Being a good host to strangers and making them feel at home is the key to Bed & Breakfast accommodations and you are the very best. We are already singing your praises and recommending Hampton Terrace to anyone who will listen.

"Delicious Relaxation!"
Stan and Susan are genuine innkeepers, warm, professional and caring for their guests' peace and comfort. This is a place to relax and enjoy the Berkshires! Town is a short walk away and restaurant reviews are supplied. The inn itself is a beautiful turn of the century mansion, with comfortable furniture, a grand piano, lovely antiques. Breakfast is first-rate, varied and served in a spacious dining room with assorted nooks where one can mingle with guests or remain private. Fresh fruit is always on the menu as well as hot entrees. I am particularly happy to report that a fine mattress will be waiting (those of us with back trouble really appreciate that), as well as a down comforter, reading chair, ample lighting and air- conditioning when needed. If wanting animal companionship, Atticus the Inndog is happy to be petted anytime. Having stayed in inns around the world, I am pleased as can be to plan a return visit next year, which will be my third vacation in this rare and charming Berkshire jewel! Look no further!

"Hampton Terrace is a Real Gem"
The saying "location, location, location" comes readily to mind, and though it is quite accurate, it is wholly inadequate to describe the joys of staying at Hampton Terrace. It has been a pleasure to stay there each summer during the Tanglewood season and enjoy all that Lenox has to offer without ever using our car. We even walked to Tanglewood one evening - although it is a bit of a hike. It's also a great base for all the other cultural attractions in the Berkshires. Our stays at both the Main House and the Carriage House have been filled with wonderful hours of reading (usually books from The Bookstore in town), excellent breakfasts and lively conversation about cultural events and broader topics with both hosts and guests. Stan and Susan are very gracious hosts and provide all sorts of information on what to do and see in the area, as well as great restaurant recommendations. The accommodations are quite lovely and comfortable, and last year they added a pool. We return every summer, which says a lot about what we think of this great place and the hospitality offered there.

"Annual event"
A stay at the Hampton Terrace has become an annual event with friends. Several couples gather for a long weekend of relaxation and music. The welcome and the care has been wonderful. The facilities are first rate and continually improving and the warmth of the location have brought us back several times. We plan our collective schedules early to make sure we can enjoy this annual respite.

"Hampton Terrace is a winner!"
Lovely rooms in a very pleasant town make the Hampton Terrace a very attractive inn in which to stay close to many good restaurants and shops. Most importantly to us, the inn is very close to Tanglewood, summer home of the Boston Symphony. Breakfast is always quite good. The new pool adds a nice touch.

"Lovely location, friendly and laid-back innkeeper"
We just returned from the Hampton Terrace and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Stan, our innkeeper, was very laid-back, helping us find the perfect restaurant (The Old Mill- WONDERFUL), telling us about his family, even recommending a book about the Red Sox to us (my husband is a serious fan!)
We stayed in Room #6 in the Carriage House, located behind the Main House. Although we did miss being able to walk the old Victorian ambience of the Main house, our room (as well as the common area of the Carriage House itself) was impeccable- wonderfully decorated, with more than ample heat from the gas fireplace. And it wasn't as if we couldn't have gone into the Main House- it was where breakfast (also lovely) was held each morning, and we did have a drink in the living room the first night.
Location-wise it couldn't have been better - very very close to the town center. We didn't walk in the cold but could easily see how in summer it would be a nice quick stroll.
I should also mention- the service of the Inn began before we even set foot in it. Once I visited the site and noted online that I was interested, I received really informative emails about packages and specials, and, once I'd booked, I was sent advance information about Tanglewood's season. I felt like the staff at the Inn were really interested in helping me get to know the Berkshires.
All in all, we were thrilled. We really felt the personal touch of this innkeeper contributed immeasurably to the visit, as well as the adorable dog, Atticus.

"Crossing the threshold to our other 'home'"
We have stayed at the Hampton Terrace twice and it was excellent both times. From the moment we crossed the threshold we entered a cozy warm home environment with superb furnishings and very congenial management. There is a grand piano and a working bar for guests use. They have a local directory with best picks for food cultural entertainment and outdoor recreational activities. Stan has an uncanny ability to give clear concise directions to anywhere you want to go and always has his ear to the ground for the best local events at the time. We stayed in both the main house and the carriage house suites and both were roomy with comfortable furnishings. Their breakfast is always excellent. Peet's coffee, fresh fruit, real maple syrup, and eggs every which way accompanied with breakfast meats. if you go late you can make it all the way to supper, no problem. We didn't use the pool but it is nestled very nicely among the trees with good stone work. Stan and Susan are excellent proprietors, always there to help, advise but don't "hover". For us the Hampton Terrace winds up feeling like a home and a great place to come back to in any season.

"Loved this place!!"
For our honeymoon we decided to check out the fall foliage in New England. We're from California, and figured we would step outside of our typical wine country get-away box and do something different for a change. One of our stops was Lenox, MA, where we stayed at the Hampton Terrace for only one night. We really wish we would have stayed there for half of our trip! We were very impressed by the main house, it was very well kept and held so much history. Very cozy too whether the fireplace is lit or not. We were also very impressed with the private king suite we had booked. It was equipped with a fireplace, Jacuzzi tub, huge comfy bed, even a small kitchen area. The owners, Stan and Susan, were a pleasure to meet. We enjoyed their company while sitting around the fire drinking some wine before we headed out for dinner. They gave us a great recommendation for a local restaurant with good steaks - Prime Steakhouse. Very yummy. And the next morning Stan had cooked up a killer breakfast, complete with homemade biscuits. Delicious! This place was so memorable, we will be sure to stay here again the next time we find ourselves in the Berkshires. I've already told my parents about this B&B, and I will definitely be helping them plan a fall foliage trip of their own, complete with a long stay at the Hampton Terrace.

"Unbeatable B&B"
My wife and I celebrated her birthday this year with a trip to the Berkshires to take in the change of season and enjoy the change of pace from New York. We stayed at the Hampton Terrace several years ago and had a great stay, but it was our first time to the area. We always like to try out something different, so we stayed at a few other B&B's during subsequent visits. I have to say that having tried several other inns, we simply had to go back to the Hampton Terrace. Stan and Susan were great hosts and made it a point to welcome us back after a long time away. The inn is well kept and is a warm, inviting place to just sit around and enjoy a glass of wine before dinner. Breakfast was great with different choices every day and Stan was always helpful with recommendations for lunch and dinner in Lenox or in the surrounding towns. We felt like guests in their home and were truly sad to leave. We even fell in love with the family's dog, Atticus, who was friendly and fun to be around. We are looking forward to our next trip back to the Berkshires and will certainly be staying at the Hampton Terrace.

"A Little Slice of Heaven!"
We just got back from our second trip to Hampton Terrace and already cannot wait for our third! We stayed in the most beautiful King Suite with a beautiful, four-poster bed and Jacuzzi by the fireplace! There was, also, a lovely, sparklingly clean, full bathroom, wet bar, small fridge, nice TV and DVD player. The gorgeous bed was amazingly comfortable with fluffy white comforters and pillows to sink into. We had all the privacy one could ask for, and yet, it was just a few steps to join the gracious hosts, owners Stan and Susan for conversation and company in the common living areas. By the way, the living areas were strikingly beautiful - tastefully furnished and decorated to fit the historic period of the home, yet warm and inviting. And I can't say enough about the amazing breakfasts they provide. Yesterday, we had both blueberry and buckwheat pancakes, as well as, an assortment of bagels, English muffins and cereals. Today, we had scrambled eggs, sausage, fabulously seasoned grits and more. We are from Georgia and finding grits done exactly right is not easy, even in the South, so we thought that was pretty special! This morning I took a walk, and within one block, found myself in charming downtown Lenox with all its lovely shops. We have daughters who are ages 17, 20 and 25. They are begging to go with us next time to Hampton Terrace and we know they would love it, too!

"Loved the King Suite... and the breakfast grits!"
We arrived by motorcycle on Friday afternoon, and were warmly greeted by Stan. After a quick checking and tour of the warm, charming and gracious common rooms, we were shown to our suite and left to enjoy the gas fireplace, Jacuzzi two person tub and sumptuous king size bed. We later came back to the common rooms to relax and wander through the local restaurant ledger - a book the innkeepers have put together with menus from all the local establishments. Breakfast the next morning was full of delicious choices and we ate well before heading off for a day of strenuous hiking at Mt. Greylock. The long soak in our tub that night was a dream! All in all a fun and relaxing weekend.

"A Great Experience at the Hampton Terrace"
My husband and I made our first visit to the Berkshires at a very slow point in the season and spent two nights at the Hampton Terrace. The house itself is beautiful, colorful, cheery and airy - a welcoming place to return to after a day exploring the area. We happened to arrive in Lenox on an afternoon in which the rain didn't let up all night, so the atmosphere of the inn was particularly important and didn't disappoint. We appreciated the straightforwardness, congeniality and professionalism of the innkeepers, who thoughtfully attended to the details of our stay, We stayed in room 1, which was largely lovely, comfortable and clean, with a fireplace for chilly nights. The breakfast buffets were fresh, healthy, good and filling. Stan, who we saw the most, addressed potential questions and gave us a thorough run-through of the way things work at the inn upon our arrival (with the aid of a must-skim comprehensive binder in the room), was always ready to help and engage with the guests yet very unimposing, and full of great stories. We've definitely recommended it to our family and look forward to returning.

"Great location, great food, great value."
My wife and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary with a relaxing long weekend in the Berkshires. The experience was wonderful, and it would not have been the same if not for the Hampton Terrace. Stan (the Innkeeper) goes out of his way to familiarize you with the area, and makes a hearty breakfast. If not for Stan, we might not have known about the Boston Symphony performance at Tanglewood - what a treat that was! Stan even mailed me a pair of jogging shorts that I had left in the room!
The main house is beautiful, the rooms were clean and well-maintained, and the bedroom furnishings were reminiscent of the American Gilded Age. It's also a stone's throw away from the center of town. Definitely recommend.

"Best Inn in the Berkshires, Bar None!"
Looking for peace, tranquility and the perfect blend of Old World opulence and optimal modern amenities? Then look no further. Hampton Terrace is it! From the impeccably restored guest rooms in the antique-laden main house to the spacious king suites (equipped with four-poster beds, cloud-like comforters and Jacuzzis) out back, you will not find comparable comfort and joy anywhere. Innkeepers Stan and Susan Rosen, along with their trusty dog Atticus, offer visitors the ideal location -- right at the edge of downtown Lenox, a short walk from the town's many fine restaurants and stylish boutiques, and a quick drive from Tanglewood (made quicker still by the directions they divulge to their guests to take a secret shortcut). Their lovely swimming pool, which is never crowded, along with the four public tennis courts right next door, provide the athletic amenities of a fancy resort, minus the usual exorbitant prices and pretentiousness. Best of all, perhaps, is the lavish breakfast buffet served daily in the dining room, at which guests meet to eat and linger over coffee, lively conversation, and a different tempting entree each day. (Particularly memorable: The sausage-and-egg casserole, fluffy blueberry pancakes, and Stan's special grits, served with scrambled eggs and sausages only on Sundays). My husband and I just enjoyed our fifth Fourth of July weekend in a row there, and upon leaving had only two things to say to the Rosens: "Thanks again!" and "Same time next year!"

"Adorable, charming and very relaxing!"
I selected the Hampton Terrace after reading such positive reviews on TripAdvisor, and it's all true - this B&B is incredibly charming and lovely! My friend and I were greeted by Stan who gave us a nice tour of the grounds and showed us to our room. He also introduced us to Atticus the dog and gave us information and a map of the village. Each room is uniquely decorated and very cozy. The bed was so comfy. There was a nice selection of breakfast items, perfect for our vegan diets. We had so much fun, it was a fantastic way to spend a quiet weekend away from our homes in Los Angeles and NYC. I would ABSOLUTELY stay at the Hampton Terrace again. Thanks!

"Pleasant stay"
My wife and I recently spent a weekend at this bed and breakfast, arriving in the middle of a snowstorm and without reservations. The owner welcomed us warmly and showed us around. Our room in the Carriage House was clean and cozy and well worth the price. The owners continued to be helpful and friendly all weekend and our experience was nothing short of perfect. We will definitely be staying here again.

My girlfriend and I recently escaped NYC for an amazing weekend at Hampton Terrace. As soon as we walked in the door there was an immediate feeling of hospitality. Stan and Susan, owners of Hampton Terrace, provided us with fantastic restaurant recommendations and great itineraries for daily activities. Each morning breakfast is prepared in the main house and it's something that should not be missed.
Hampton Terrace is located in an ideal location. It's within walking distance to most restaurants and shops in Lenox. The room was very well taken care of and the beds were very comfortable. Our room had a nice fire place which was very enjoyable in the evenings.
Everything about the weekend was perfect and we hope to get back to Hampton Terrace in the very near future.

Stan and Susan, the owners of this Inn, were so gracious and welcoming, and we had a chance to visit with them for the length of a winter afternoon at their property, between various Berkshire activities during our stay. They gave us great recommendations for food, activities and sightseeing, and we only wish we had had more time there! We have now been twice to this beautiful property with upscale rooms and facilities - we had a great time and hope to go back again soon. They went above and beyond to make us comfortable! And the daily breakfast is great!
Hospitality and warmth among all that high-scale beauty is hard to find - but they have perfected it!
Nellie, Manhattan NY
The Hampton Terrace is my favorite B&B I've ever stayed at. It is big enough to feel like you have some privacy, but offers wonderful common areas (fireplaced living room, lounge, dining room) and amazing breakfasts. Stan is so welcoming and helpful. Between the Main House, the Carriage House and the Cottages, there really is an option for everyone, and the pool is such a treat in the summer. We keep going back and discovering more to do around the area, while we revisit our favorite spots. Our go-to-get-away.

My fiancee and I have had the pleasure to stay at the Hampton Terrace twice now, and both times we have had an amazingly lovely experience. We stayed in one of the suites which was impeccably clean, beautifully appointed and very romantic. The inn is very welcoming with a great common area where you can sit and have a glass of wine, read or just unwind with your loved one or friends. Stan takes his job seriously, personally greeting each guest, providing a short tour of the Inn and sharing information that is needed for a lovely stay. And every morning he is there to greet the guests personally with great suggestions on things to do for the day as well as share what the wonderful home cooked breakfast selection will be. And I do have to mention that he makes the BEST grits I have ever had! We are always sad to leave after a wonderful weekend but are now looking forward to booking our next trip! It is a very special place for us and we look forward to visiting again soon!
Melissa, Fairfield, CT
Stan was very thoughtful and an amazing host. The Inn offers a great balance between feeling welcome into their home and giving guests privacy. For example, at breakfast you can choose between an 8,6,4 or 2 person tables so you can either be social or have your space.
It's also really nice that there are several common rooms. There's a common room in the main house, (in addition to the dining room and bar) as well as a common room in the cottage.
Super convenient access to downtown Lenox. Can easily walk to restaurants and shopping.
Sara, Boston, MA
After a visit in October and another in January, Hampton Terrace Inn is now the first inn I'd consider for a weekend in the Berkshires. It's a lovely inn within walking distance of Lenox shops and restaurants, and a short drive to Tanglewood and other attractions. We've stayed in the new building and the old one--both to our satisfaction--but I think I prefer the old one, simply because it has more character. Both buildings are decorated in a way that I like (homey but not too flowery). In both rooms our bed was huge and super comfy, with sheets so soft I wondered if they were organic. The breakfast was good, in ways that most people like (French toast one day, eggs the other), but I'm a bit of a foodie and a health nut so I would have dialed the hot breakfast a little healthier, if possible. With that said, they did have healthier (if cold) options on hand, and I did enjoy the food we ate. Finally, I'm a stickler for cleanliness and have yet to see anything that disappoints me. In fact, we rolled back the rug to do yoga and found not a crumb underneath! The whole place was very clean and well-kept. Last but not least, we found the innkeeper an attentive, responsible person who was willing to work with us when a situation regarding the scheduling of our visit arose. Two thumbs up!

We had our 6th stay at Hampton last weekend. Once again, we were sad to leave. It's a great place for a long weekend!

My husband and I stayed here at the end of August. I was skeptical about the whole Berkshire trip, but it turned out to be really nice. Hampton Terrace is a lovely place to stay. The rooms are all different, and some people ask to come back to the same room when they return. Ours was very pretty and comfortable. At first our television wasn't working, but Stan fixed it right away. Breakfast is served in a lovely dining room with beautiful china settings. There was a different hot breakfast each day along with cold cereals and fruit. You sit at a large table with the other guests. I was skeptical about this at first, too, but it turned out to be fun. People exchanged information about where they had visited or gone to dinner, and it was a nice beginning to the day. If we go back to the Berkshires, we would want to stay here again.

Dear Susan and Stan,
....I just wanted to thank you for the most amazing sleep I've received since March. I'M NOT KIDDING! Working on 'All My Children', I am at the studio at 6am, only to return home from at midnight and after memorizing my next day's dialogue, back to sleep at 2am - for 3 hours, before I do it all again. Your home is so beautiful, so charming, so exquisite and filled with such an amazing personal touch - I wished I could stay forever (or at least another night!) I can't wait to have a proper vacation from my busy work schedule to fully take advantage of (what i later heard!) was an amazing breakfast, the beautiful town of Lenox, but mostly quality time in such a beautiful, historic, clearly so loved by its owners, bed and breakfast. Thank you again for your warmth and hospitality.

....During the Shakespeare & Company production of my play An Impossible Life, my wife and I -- and the director and cast of the play -- not only stayed at Hampton Terrace, but also hung out there, partied there, and had a wonderful time there. Stan and his family were welcoming and made us all feel so much at home, we all left wishing they would adopt us. A splendid place to work, to play, to rest, and to meet friends and colleagues. We'll be back. Frequently.

We arrived in the Fall (Nov. 30), when I awoke the next morning from a very restful sleep and looked out my balcony window, I knew the beauty James sings about. Quiet, white, home...the Berkshires did seem dreamlike on account of that frosting! The entire stay from beginning to end was full of wonderful images enhanced by your family's warmth and hospitality. The ride back to New York City with Peter Reigert and Ylva Edlestein was dominated with talk about how we all felt we had just experienced a very special, magical few days, thanks in large part to your generosity. That is saying something coming from a bunch of jaded actors.

....I enjoyed my stay at Hampton Terrace very much. The beds alone are worth the visit. Perfectly located, and warmly suited, I look forward to getting another chance to visit.

...We think the best part of the holiday was spent at the Hampton Terrace Inn in Lenox. This was a small inn (12 double bedrooms) which was an old clapboard house, full of character, and lovingly restored and furnished by the owner and his wife. Our bedroom was very spacious and comfortable and everything about the house was friendly, with welcoming lounges to relax in, and the family dog wagging his tail and coming up to us every time we walked across the lawn to the main house. We enjoyed talking to the owner, and to other guests over home cooked breakfasts, and for dinner, a street lined with very good restaurants was just a few minutes walk away. This was, without a doubt, the best part of our holiday, and we would not hesitate in recommending the Hampton Terrace to others.

Just a note to let you know that our stay here with you was one of the most pleasant and comfortable we have ever experienced. Your courtesy and welcoming manner made us feel right at home from the moment we drove up & there you were! Our room was spacious and beautifully appointed and your whole family deserves appreciation (including Atticus Finch!) Thank you for a wonderful visit. We will be posting nothing but glowing comments on the Internet and have already determined that we will do our best to return soon.

Thank you for sending me the article from the Berkshire Eagle about Kiri Te Kanawa. An amazing kindness and I am very grateful. Also, thank you for your hospitality and for answering my endless questions: but your answers enabled my friend and me to see and do everything we wanted during the weekend, and it was all just perfect. However, I am still working off the pounds from the blueberry tart. It was so fine then...it is not so fine around the waistline now. Thank you!

Well, what are you serving for breakfast this morning? Delicious pancakes and sausage? Wonderful eggs, bacon and sweet rolls, and then of course on Sunday your remarkable coffee cake! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with you.

What wonderful innkeepers you are! Our visit at your Hampton Terrace last weekend was most delightful and the breakfasts were outstanding and most delicious. Thank you for your most courteous attention and I enjoyed hearing your stories, Stan. Do write them down for the children.

(We) wanted to wish you and yours all the best in 2002. We hope all is well on that end. Our recollections of our visit last summer are joyful and lingering. In fact, it was one of our favorite vacations - ever!

I want to take the time to let you know what a nice and relaxing time Irene and I had during our stay at Hampton Terrace last weekend. Your recommendations for dining and the Clark Art Institute were exactly what we wanted to do during our time in Lenox. You are a very gracious host and Atticus was a nice touch to the ambiance of the inn...........Thanks from me also, Stan. We had a great weekend and did not care what the weather brought. Your home is very warm and inviting and you are a most gracious host. We have already recommended your bed and breakfast to my mother who plans to visit this summer. I have also gotten some decorating ideas for the home we will be buying soon. Thank you again.

Thank you so much for a lovely stay at Hampton Terrace. We were happy to get a room and delighted that you could juggle everything to please all of your guests. The breakfast was delicious, too, and we felt properly pampered. Best wishes for continued success in everything.

Thank you for your warm welcome and very generous tour of Hampton Terrace. It was very moving for me - so easy to imagine the furniture I grew up with being there. You have done such a magnificent job in bringing this gem to life. I'll hunt through some old history and be in touch...

This thank you is overdue --hectic holiday season, especially when we decided to take a weekend out to relax! We really enjoyed your warm hospitality and LOVELY home. Susan has a creative and elegant touch. I enjoyed chatting with you over breakfast and appreciated all the "tips." We will certainly return to lovely Lenox and would enjoy staying at your home again. I will be happy to recommend Hampton Terrace to any friend who might be traveling your way. P.S. My husband said our weekend was everything he had hoped for, and that was in large part due to where we stayed.

Thanks for helping to make our few days with our family in the Berkshires a big success. You went out of your way to make everything perfect, comfortable and convenient for all of us, including ice in the water for the tennis players. Hope the Fall season treats you very well.

Just a quick note to say again how much Kate and I enjoyed our stay with you and Susan at Hampton Terrace. Everything from the room, to the food, to your hospitality and even to Atticus were terrific. We will indeed be back. Hopefully sooner than later.

Thank you so much for putting us up in luxury and making our visit to the Berkshires even more fun and wonderful! We always love being with you and the kids and seeing new improvements to the Inn!

Thank you for everything you did to six of us while we were staying there. Also I appreciate your trouble for kindly exchanging e-mail to my office. I am pleased to tell you that I met the curator of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland as scheduled. I am enclosing herewith photographs taken together with you. These are unforgettable souvenirs for me. Getting back from cool and green Tanglewood to scorching hot Tokyo, I am at my wits end. Hope I can visit your place in the future. Please take good care of yourself.

I just want to thank you for being so terrific about the rooms for Jenny's wedding. Everyone really enjoyed your b&b. One couple in particular had stayed a number of times elsewhere (shall be nameless) and said that Hampton Terrace was far superior and were so pleased to have found it. Thanks again.

And in the winter, you can experience that charm at a time where the Berkshires come alive!
