Hampton Terrace Bed and Breakfast

Historical Homes

If these walls could talk.... Historical homes have a particular appeal because they are a remnant of the fascinating lives that came before us. They are intimately connected with history, and are often famous landmarks in their own right. Knowing that you will slumber and dine under the same roof as did the characters of an era past can be exciting. At Hampton Terrace Bed and Breakfast, we treasure our historical home, and we welcome you to share the experience of a time gone by.

One of the key aspects of visiting a historical home is fully experiencing an immersion in the rich history which has lent it its unique character. We are a part of the small group of historic homes that were built in the late 19th century in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, by the literary elite and the families of the great American dynasties, and we have made every effort to maintain and celebrate our historical roots in every way possible.

And a long history it has been. Our historical estate was originally the site of Lenox's blacksmith in the early 19th century. Edmund Spencer built a home on the property in 1852. The property and home changed hands through the second half of the 19th century, eventually to be purchased by the wealthy Struthers family of Philadelphia. During its heyday, our estate was the site of many parties thrown by Mrs. Struthers, and later became immortalized in Edith Wharton's famous work, The Age of Innocence.

We have since completely renovated Hampton Terrace, while preserving the precious history living in these walls. Each room is decorated with antiques, but is also equipped with a TV/VCR and private full bath. Most rooms feature a warm and cozy fireplace, and either a Jacuzzi or a claw-foot tub. We welcome any questions about our historic home! Contact us at 1-800-203-0656 or at info@hamptonterrace.com.
