Hampton Terrace in Lenox, Massachusetts, has been an inn since 1937 and we have owned it since 1999. Currently we have fourteen rooms in service. Five are original to the main house and have been upgraded twice since 1999. The six Wynnstay Cottage rooms were created in the 1897 carriage house in 2000, and the three king suites were built in 2005. So we have a wide assortment of room choices….unique for an older inn.
Most properties have older rooms and no other choices. Some of our guests, who want the public spaces to have the ambiance and historic character of an Gilded Age mansion, want their bedrooms to be modern. Others want a 110-year-old room with an antique claw-foot tub, thank you.
When we say modern, we do not mean plastic. Our modern bathrooms are all tile, have pedestal porcelin sinks without exception, and have Jacuzzis.
But our older rooms also need to be fresh. So we are now embarking on the third round of upgrades in all of our Main House rooms. Recently, we completed the Struthers Room, with all new paint and white trim. The curtains and throw pillows have been changed (vintage fabrics, of course) and small details attended to.
So whether you want modern amenities in your bedrooms, or 110-year-old rooms that are as fresh as we can make them….consider Hampton Terrace for your romantic getaway in the Berkshires.
